The Black and White of it All

Black and White, one of spring’s boldest trends, can be found in many collections this year.  Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Pamella Roland and Alice & Olivia are good examples, but no one did it more justice than Marc Jacobs. In the final parade of his Spring/Summer 2013 runway show, lines blurred into each other as the models paraded down the runway forming a pyramid. His silhouettes were mod, accessories linear and the color primarily black and white. In Calvin Klein’s collection, some white looks included slivers of black that were visually pleasing and flattering. Layering the black moire wave pattern over the white shift created an optical illusion of ripples while the model walked down the runway. Michael Kors gave another nod to the mod sixties but with a hint of preppy. Bold rugby stripes and blocks of color went down the runway at  his Spring RTW 2013 show, but  black and white were the key components to his collection. The vertical stripes in his Deck Stripe Trouser elongates the leg beautifully. Although the 60’s nod to mod is prevalent this year, spring and summer collections are full of bold colors like yellows and kelly green, graphic and floral prints and lace and leather.  To watch the runway shows connected with the fashion you see here visit Runway Shows on Styled NOW!
