Turning Heads This Fall

Whether pretty in pastels, leather or fur, coats are fashion’s must-have Fall accessory. But outerwear is only part of the story. Also in the air: nouveau punk; serious 90’s grunge revival, mid-century silhouettes, and hues of Mediterranean blues are some of this season’s most important trends. Even though fashion designers and retailers play it safe in tough economic markets using the return of leather, fur and denim , there are still plenty of new things to update your Fall 2013 wardrobe. Structural bags and clothing, along with high impact metallics and embellishments, had strong impacts on the runway this year.

The ankle boot has circled back again for another return. This year, it’s pared down and simple, which makes it a good investment for virtually any closet — classic, trendy, casual, etc. That’s not to say that the elaborate aren’t widely available with buckles, studs and ornate details. Speaking of footwear, the oxford is still bouncing around in patent or metallic, though you’ll find plenty of streamlined and simple shapes and colors.

After a couple of years of leather moto jackets, the coat has made a come back. Most notably is the “boyfriend coat,” oversized, in a classic cut and timeless wool or cashmere.  Boxy knits are everywhere also  in pullover styles, as well as cardigans, shawls and sweater coats. There is also a return of camouflage, this time incorporated into more sophisticated pieces like silk pants, silk tops or silk scarves. Classic plaids and leopard patterns have been exaggerated in bold patterns, along with florals. Jewelry is bold, but necklaces still make the best statements. Whether you layer them or like one piece to stand on it’s own, jewelry adds the finishing touch to any outfit.

As always, there is something for everyone this fall depending on your taste and budget so updating your closet will be fun and oversized, a sure head turner.
